My Bloody Valentine - mbv /// My Bloody Valentine is undoubtedly the single most significant and most impactful band in the genre of shoegaze. Their 1988 debut album Isn’t Anything influenced several other young bands and spawned the new genre of shoegaze. They continued to build their sound with several EPs, and in 1991, released the now shoegaze classic Loveless, a 48 minute album which defined the genre and put a firm hold on the bands legacy. Though heavily revered and critically acclaimed however, the album was not commercially successful and it would take another 23 years before the release of another album: mbv.The album itself does not display tremendous musical growth from the band—yet this is not necessarily a negative issue. Through mbv, My Bloody Valentine fulfills all the expectations brought on by a heavily anticipated album. The album is dreamlike and romantic: the fuzzy guitar sounds encompass the hazy vocals and the songs provide a seemingly ethereal and pleasurable listening experience.
