Longhorn Sports Report Spring Week 6

By Julian Munoz, Sports Writer

Howdy Longhorns! Welcome back to the sixth rendition of the Spring Longhorns Sports Report. Today we wrap up some amazing seasons and update y’all on some hot win streaks.  Let’s start with Longhorns Baseball and end with Longhorns Soccer.

Coach Kobza’s Varsity squad has bounced back fully from a three-game losing streak and have turned it around for a three-game winning streak. The Longhorns run-ruled FB Hightower 10-0 in 5 inning last Friday thanks to a NO HITTER from Senior Johnathan Canter. Canters’ stuff was electric as he only allowed one walk and an error to the Hurricanes offense. The ‘Horns continued their offensive dominance on the road at FB Dulles with a 12-4 win. The Longhorns scored 8 runs in the first inning thanks to RBI doubles from Juniors Tre Akins, Lane Walton, Cody Ford, and Brady Duque. The pitching would hold the Vikings to 4 runs over the course of the game as the Longhorns move their 20-6a record to 4-3.  GR take on FB Elkins Saturday, April 1st, and FB Clements on Tuesday, April 4th. We’ll have those scores next time.

Lady Longhorns Softball continued their offensive dominance with an 11-1 run-rule win over FB Clements last Friday. Zaria Turner continued her dominant season starting the game off with EIGHT STRIKEOUTS IN A ROW. She would allow one run in the fourth inning, but the Lady Longhorns would finish the Lady Rangers in the fifth inning on an RBI Single by Junior Kate Dolan. Coach Witt’s squad would continue their streak with a thrashing of FB Austin 18-0. The game ended in 3 innings thanks to the run-rule being in effect once again. This win marks the ladies’ sixth win in a row, and they push their record up to 8-2 in 20-6a play. Big game coming up as they host FB Travis on Friday, March 31st, then play away at Ridge Point High School for the second leg of the rivalry. We’ll have those scores next time as well.

Coach Jackson’s boys Soccer season has come to a close as they lost their first-round playoff matchup to Katy Paetow, 5-0. A historic season for the boys has wrapped up. Nothing but applause for them. Congratulations on a great season!

The Lady Longhorns Soccer season also ended as they took a 3-1 defeat in the first round of the playoffs to Seven Lakes High School. Back-to-Back great seasons for Coach Jimenez and the girls as there is still a lot of talent rolling into next season. We can’t wait to see what that season brings. Congratulations on a great season ladies!

Coach Noonan’s Varsity Tennis squad is hosting the 20-6A District tournament Wednesday and Thursday at The Ranch; we’ll have those results next time as well.

That wraps up this week’s report. We are coming down the final stretch with only nine more weeks in the school year to go. We’ll have more Baseball, Softball and Tennis next time on the Longhorn Sports Report.
