Welcome Back Stone Garrett!

By Julian Munoz, Sports Writer

The MLB has entered the Stone Zone! George Ranch Alum Stone Garrett recently got called up to the Major Leagues for the first time with the Arizona Diamondbacks. He is George Ranch’s first baseball player to reach “The Show”.  With the D-Backs playing the Houston Astros September 27-28th, Stone had the opportunity to make his return to the Ranch. T he 2014 Graduate held a Q&A with current GR baseball players in the auxiliary gym on September 28th.

Stone was one of the Longhorns premiere athletes during George Ranches powerhouse era in the Mid-2010s. Stone batted .398 in his senior season while slugging 7 home runs. He was ranked in the top 100 athletes for his graduating class and in the top 50 for his junior year. Garrett graduated one year before Coach Kobzas magical run to the Texas State Tournament in Round Rock. To this day it is the lone time the Longhorns have made it to State in baseball.

Stone was selected in the eighth round on the 2014 MLB draft by the Miami Marlins where he played in the minors for 6 years. After his sixth year he was granted free agency where he signed with the Arizona Diamondback. He got called up to the big leagues earlier this year and is batting .309 while mashing 4 homers. He logged his first major league hit on August 17th, in San Francisco while playing the Giants.

Stone is considered an idol to baseball players here at GR and we will continue to support him during his MLB Career. We hope the best for Stone as he finishes his rookie season with the D-Backs.
