Howdy Longhorns! The fourth week of the school year is over and with that comes another week of sports to talk about. Let’s dive right into the action!

Longhorn Football hosted FB Austin Highschool for the Homecoming game, with the Longhorns coming out on top, 23-13.  The ‘Horns dominated the game on the ground rushing for 212 yards. Deion Drinkard’s (JR) arm was quiet this game as he only attempted 11 passes. He went 5/11 for 75 yards and a touchdown. Jaden Shelton was the Longhorns’ leading ground-gainer with 174 rushing yards on 25 carries and a touchdown.   Joe Muckelroy (SR) took a screen pass from Drinkard and moved 20 yards to the house for the ‘Horns lone passing touchdown on the night. The Longhorn defense stifled the Bulldog offense holding them to just 13 points. Adrian Falkquay (JR) and Cody Ford (JR) both forced fumbles and Colin Mclemore blocked a PAT.  The ‘Horns look to improve their district record to 3-0 as they take on the FB Travis Tigers Thursday, September 22nd at Tully Stadium.

“My performance was all my O-line, so credit them. We been improving week by week going the first 2 game scoring 7 points then when district started, we turned it up and the defense been doing their thing holding teams and getting stops. If we can turn it up a notch, we are going to be a scary team that no one wants to play.” – Jaden Shelton regarding the 2-0 start to 20-6A District play.

Longhorn Volleyball defeated FB Dulles High school 3-1 on Friday, September 16th. Hailey Forshee (JR) received player of the game for the Lady Longhorns. This match improved the Lady Longhorns overall record to 23-11 and 20-6a record to 5-2.  The  ‘Horns host FB Elkins High School on Thursday, September 22nd, at The Ranch.

Longhorn Tennis played two matches this past week, going one and one. FB Hightower had to forfeit their match, so George Ranch won by default. The ‘Horns lost a tough match against FB Dulles by a score of 12-7.  Longhorn Tennis have a 5-2 20-6a district record which slots them in 3rd and a playoff spot.

Girls XC completed the sweep with both Varsity and JV getting first place in the Spring Branch ISD Invitational.  Sophia Nguyen and Madison Haldiman were the highest placers for the ‘Horns, coming in at 3rd and 4th place respectably.

Travis Morrey broke the school record for the fastest 5k time at an astonishing time of 15 minutes 51 seconds. He was the lone Longhorn to place in the Top 10 and helped G-R to an overall 3rd place finish.  A huge congratulations to Travis and his new school record time.
