Another World Series trophy heads back to Atlanta, this time, the first in 26 years. Last Tuesday, November 2, the Atlanta Braves beat the Houston Astros in game six of the World Series, with a final score of 7-0.

Game one of this series was played at Houston’s Minute Maid Park, and the Braves ended up winning 6-2. However, Houston battled back to tie the series, with a 7-2 victory over the Braves the next day. Headed to Atlanta Georgia’s Truist Park, the Braves won the Friday and Saturday night games, putting them ahead 3-1 in the series, and putting the Astro’s backs against the wall. However, the Astros gave it their all on Sunday Night’s Halloween game, and ended up winning 9-5, even after giving up a grand slam in the first inning.

The Astros were still down 3-2 in the series, and needed to win the next two games in Houston if they wanted another title. However, the Atlanta Braves broke the Atlanta Curse, and won game six, ending the Astros bid for another World Series Title.

The path the Braves took to get to the World Series was certainly an impressive one. They finished the regular season with a 88-73 record, clinching the NL East. Compared to the Astros 95-67 record, many did not favor the Braves to win it all. Atlanta beat the Milwaukee Brewers in the NLDS 3-1, after dropping the very first game. In the NLCS, the Braves fended off the L.A. Dodgers, in a 4-2 series victory. This led them to their tenth World Series appearance.

The Astros had their fourth World Series Appearance, and their third in five years. The Astros cruised through the Chicago White Sox in a 3-1 ALDS series, making it the fifth year in a row they’ve won that Division Series. Despite having a bit of trouble facing Boston, when the Red Sox hit two grand slams in back-to-back games, the Astros managed to come out and win at home, in a 4-2 best of seven. This brought them to a home-field advantage World Series, where they would be chasing their second World Series Title.

Overall, it was a great series, and both team played their hearts out. As for the 29 teams that didn’t win the World Series, there’s always next year.
