Named as fashion most famous night, the Met Gala is a highly glamorous event attended by the elite. The event creates new fashion trends and many new designers have a chance to show off their work. The costume exhibit shows how fashion is transforming into art, and that fashion can impact the world by explaining cultures, politics, and can create fusions. However, when did the Met Gala become such a famous night for the world to see?
The Met Gala was established in 1948 by fashion publicist Eleanor Lambert. She had created it as a fundraiser for the costume department. The Met Gala started off as just a dinner with tickets as much as fifty dollars. However, after Vogue took over the gala, it started to become more exclusive and celebrity oriented. This resulted in it becoming more exclusive. After the editor of Vogue, Anna Wintour took charge of the event she created the event to be extremely glamorous and full of high fashion couture. Celebrities wear high fashion designers such as Alexander McQueen, Givenchy, Versace, etc. Many designers sponsor celebrities as it is a way to get publicity and sales for a company. Many designers will create strategies to publicize their companies. The estimate of how much is spent on such a luxurious event is about 3.5 million dollars. As the years go on, the event gets more exclusive and more highly maintained, it gains media attention globally by the followers of the fashion industry.
The world looks forward to the glamorous outfits created by magnificent designers. The Met Gala this year took place on May 6th of 2019 in which the theme had been given as “Camp: Notes on Fashion”. The theme meant over dramatized outfits and many celebrities struck to the theme.
