Oprah Winfrey is a woman who is known around the world for her famous talk show, The Oprah Winfrey Show. She is the first woman of color who hosted a TV show program at only the age of 19. She is also the first woman of color who is a billionaire.  Her show ran from 1986 to 2011 when she finally launched her own TV network naming it OWN.  

Winfrey went through many difficulties as a young child such as facing sexual abuse. She overcame those hardships and got a degree in speech communications and performing arts. After graduating she became an anchor for CBS news. She started getting roles in movies which led to her becoming an actress. Winfrey voiced many well-known characters in many animated movies also. She also started to use her wealth for starting organizations and became an activist for child abuse. 

Winfrey has created many opportunities for young individuals and has contributed many things for the U.S. In 2013, President Barack Obama awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom to Winfrey for her many contributions to the country. 

Winfrey has made many changes in American history. Becoming the first of many-colored woman who has striven for equality and change, Oprah Winfrey has created a dynasty and is leaving a legacy behind for many who will follow in her footsteps.
