The latest Royal Wedding made national headlines as Prince Harry, Duke of Sussex, married well-known American actress, Meghan Markle, now the Duchess of Sussex. Harry is the sixth in line for the throne. The pair’s union is historic in many ways because Markle is not only an American marrying into the royal family but also an African-American person, two things that are most definitely not common among the royal line.
The wedding itself was a glorious event. Meghan wore a custom, long sleeve Givenchy gown. Along with the simple, white gown, Meghan accessories included a stunning tiara from the Queen’s jewelry vault, and an astonishing 16-foot veil. The trim around the veil had a special meaning to it; each flower on the edge of the veil came from each of the 53 countries in the Commonwealth. The bouquet held by Markle featured flowers hand picked by Prince Harry from his late mother’s, Princess Diana, flower garden.
While Markle stunned viewers with her simple elegance, Prince Harry also looked dashing in his attire. Harry chose to wear a military uniform, wearing a frockcoat uniform belonging to the Blues and Royals. His brother, Prince William, also chose to wear a frockcoat uniform alongside his brother.
Almost as many as 3,000 people were invited to Windsor Castle to watch them and their guests arrive. The wedding featured around 600 guests including the cast of Markle’s former tv show, Suits. Along with this, several other celebrities were in attendance including Serena Williams, Oprah, Victoria David Beckham, and many more. Guests were dressed to the nines for this royal union.
There has been much hype surrounding the royal wedding before and after it happened. Lifetime aired a special movie titled “Harry and Meghan: A Royal Romance“, showing the progression of Harry and Meghan’s relationship, and the struggles they faced when they became public. Many criticized Harry for his relationship with Markle, because she is an African-American, and because she has been divorced before. She received lots of unnecessary hate and racism.
Despite the struggles faced by the couple, they still prevailed and celebrated their love through a beautiful wedding. The royal couple seem like a match made in heaven.
