After 10 years of anticipation and over 20 confirmed characters, Marvel’s Avengers Infinity War breaks all kinds of records, but how good of a movie was it really? Well, let’s just say the hype was well deserved.

This will be a spoiler-heavy review of the new film Avengers: Infinity War, as well as future theories for the untitled sequel Avengers 4 .

Absolutely stunning audiences, Infinity war starts off with a bang. The movie takes place years after Captain America: Civil War and Guardians of the Galaxy, but mere minutes from where Thor: Ragnarok’s end credit scene takes place. The directors of the film, Anthony and Joe Russo, wasted no time demonstrating how big and bad Thanos really is, not only by wielding the power stone and gaining the space stone, but also by besting the Hulk in battle and showing an indiscriminate willingness to kill those who get in his way.

The MCU usually shies away from deaths, and if they choose to kill off a character it’s a minor character that they bring back in following movies. However, Infinity war changes all of that, and producer Kevin Feige claims some deaths may be permanent. At the end of the film, Thanos manages to collect all 6 infinity stones, and with the snap of his fingers destroys half of the universe. But with half of Marvel’s heroes slaughtered, how can the fight continue?

One theory is that Thanos winning was all part of Dr. Strange’s plan. The climax of the film shows Dr. Strange looking into the future and witnessing over 4 million different probable outcomes, but only one where the heroes come out victorious. During the Battle of Titan, when Thanos has Tony Stark beaten to a pulp, Strange willing hands over the Time Stone in exchange for Stark’s life. Strange knew it was one of the last stones he needed, so why would he hand it over? Many people believe that Stark needed to be alive and Thanos needed to have the time stone in order for the one version of the future, in which the Avengers win, to come true.

Another major theory suggests everyone who turned to ash when half the universe was destroyed, are simply inside the soul stone. In the comics there was a realm known as the Soul World, if this were to exist in the MCU it is possible that those who “disappeared” when the universe was destroyed were simply transported to the Soul World.

Fortunately, there isn’t a long wait for Avengers 4 as it will come out May of 2019, but more theories will come in to tie audiences over during the wait.
