The undefeated George Ranch Longhorns Varsity football team defeated  the Lake Ridge Eagles 56-0 in a blowout win in the Texas 5-A State Championship at NRG Stadium on Friday, December 18th, 2015.

The Lake Ridge Eagles started the game by receiving the opening kickoff. Kicker Eric Michael (9) opens the game by kicking the ball of deep to the left side of the Lake Ridge side, where the returner is quickly brought down by Safety Jairon McVea (12) inside the 10 yard line. 1st and 10 at the 8 yard line the Eagles try an inside hand off, where the Lake Ridge Running Back runs straight into a wall of Longhorn defenders and is stopped for no gain. The Eagles then complete a pass for a first down. On the new set of downs the Eagles go 3 and out and are forced to punt the ball to the Longhorns.

The Longhorns return the punt to around the 44 yard line. After two great runs by Running Back Darius Anderson (12), the Longhorns face a 2nd and long situation from the 30 yard line. Quarterback Antonio Jackson (11) on 2nd down hands the ball to Running Back Joshua Scruggs (12) and with great blocking from the left side of the offensive line, Scruggs takes it to the the house to score the first touchdown of the night. And with the extra point kick good the score is 7-0 Longhorns with 7:25 to go in the 1st quarter.

Following the GR touchdown, the Eagles complete a long pass to get them past the 50 yard line. 2 plays later on 3rd and 7, Linebacker Kris Novosad (12) blitzes and forces the Lake Ridge Quarterback to quickly get rid of the ball forcing an Eagles 4th down. The Eagles then decide to go for it on 4th down and 7 when Cornerback Mikal Onu (12) makes a drive saving stop ending the Eagles drive and giving the Longhorns the ball back.

After a failed drive the Longhorns are forced to punt the ball. The Eagles then have the ball back inside the 15 yard line. On 3rd and long the Lake Ridge Quarterback drops back and prepares for a pass when Defensive End Toby Ndukwe (11) breaks through the Lake Ridge offensive line to disrupt the Quarterback and force yet another Lake Ridge 4th down. After a roughing the punter flag called on the Longhorns the Eagles then fail to get another first down, and are forced to punt. With a fair catch by Joshua Scruggs (12) around midfield.

After 2 great runs by Running Back Joshua Scruggs (12) the Longhorns face a 4th and 7 Joshua Scruggs (12) takes the hand off and  once again has another run for a huge gain and gets the Longhorns inside the 5 yard line. 1st and goal inside the 5 Quarterback Antonio Jackson (11) takes the hand off in shotgun formation and hands the ball off to Running Back Alex Fotenot (11) who finds his way into the end-zone to give the Longhorns their second touchdown of the night. After the PAT George Ranch leads Lake Ridge 14-0 with at the end of the 1st quarter.

After another ineffective Lake Ridge drive, and a failed 4th down conversion the Eagles take over on downs.

The Eagles then have the ball around the 45 yard line, the Lake Ridge Quarterback takes the snap in shotgun formation and throws the ball deep down field only to be intercepted by Cornerback Adam Beck (11) giving the Longhorns the ball back in the middle of the 2nd quarter with the game still 14-0 George Ranch.

The Longhorns are back just a little bit beyond the 45 yard line. Quarterback Antonio Jackson (11) takes the hand off and gives it to Running Back Darius Anderson (12) who bursts through the Lake Ridge defense to take the Longhorns to around the 20 yard line. The Longhorns then come out in shotgun formation. Antonio Jackson (11) takes the snap and slings the ball to the end-zone where it is easily caught by Wide Receiver Quintin Morris (11) to increase the lead to 21-0 following the PAT with 5:52 left in the half.

Down 21-0 in the 2nd quarter on 2nd down, the Eagles Quarterback takes the snap but is quickly sacked by Toby Ndukwe (11) on back to back plays, forcing an Eagles 4th down.

After a George Ranch drive which resulted in a punt, the Lake Ridge Eagles hoped to gain a little bit of offensive momentum heading into half time. After a few first downs and with the offense starting to find their groove, the Eagles Quarterback takes the snap at the 50 yard line and throws a deep ball at the end-zone but the ball is easily intercepted by Jairon McVea (12) who returns the ball all the way back to the 50 yard line. To end the first half the Longhorns take a knee to let the clock expire and go into half time leading 21-0.

The Longhorns get the ball to start the 2nd half. After driving past the 50 yard line the Longhorns face a 3rd  and 9. Antonio Jackson(11) takes the snap and throws a screen pass to Darius Anderson(12), who takes it all 41 yards for a touchdown making it 28-0 following the PAT with 10:10 in the 3rd quarter.

The Lake Ridge Eagles bench their starting Quarterback in the 2nd half due to poor play in the 1st.

With a change at Quarterback the Lake Ridge Eagles seem to gain a little offensive momentum, driving down the field until they face a 4th and 9 just past the 50 yard line. With no Wide Receivers open, the Quarterback trys to scramble for the 1st down only to be stopped short of the 1st down by  Safety Dawson Hawkins (11), once again giving the ball back to the Longhorns.

Following the Lake Ridge turnover, Darius Anderson(12) races down field towards the end-zone where he is stripped of the ball and Lake Ridge recovers.

Facing yet another 3rd and long situation, Lake Ridge comes out in shotgun formation hoping to pick up a first down and move the chains. The Lake Ridge Quarterback takes the snap and throws to his intended target when Linebacker Brent Ugo (11) tips the pass and intercepts the ball forcing yet another Eagles turnover.

Following the turnover, Running back Josh Scruggs gets the ball and gets around the edge to get the Longhorns in the red-zone. On first and goal the ball is handed off to Running Back Alex Fotenot who muscles his way across the goal line for his 2nd touchdown of the night. Making the score 35-0 following the PAT with 6:52 left in the 3rd quarter.

After the touchdown the Longhorns get the ball back 4 plays later following a Lake Ridge punt.

After 2 short runs, Antonio hands the ball off to Darius Anderson who turns the corner and bursts into the end-zone, scoring George Ranch’s 6th touchdown of the night. After the successful PAT the score is 42-0 with 4:56 left in the 3rd quarter.

The Longhorns defense forces another 3 and out, giving the ball back to the Longhorns.

After getting the back, the Horns face a 3rd and 15 when Quarterback Antonio Jackson scrambles for the 1st down as the 3rd quarter comes to a close. Entering the final quarter Antonio Jackson hands the ball off to Alex Fotenot who takes it all the way from the 15 yard line for his 3rd rushing touchdown of the game making the score 49-0 after the PAT with 8:18 left in the game.

After both teams exchange 3 and outs the Longhorns punt the ball, but the George Ranch Special Teams makes a play as Cornerback Mikal Onu (12) strips the ball and Safety Aaron Castellano (11) picks the ball up and runs it into the end zone to give George Ranch they’re 8th touchdown of the night making the score 56-0 following the PAT with 4:16 left in the game.

As the clock is ticking down to end the game, the George Ranch defense keeps Lake Ridge out of the end zone to shut them out in the Texas Division 5-A State Championship Game.

Running Back Darius Anderson(12) and Defensive End Toby Nudkwe(11) were named the offensive and defensive players of the game as  your George Ranch Longhorns soundlessly defeat the Lake Ridge Eagles 56-0 and win the State Championship.
