Drug Life
December 10, 2015
We live on drugs.
Not physical mind altering drugs like weed or alcohol.
We live on the drugs we create for ourselves.
The kind of drugs that make you out of breath and your stomach hurt.
The kind of drugs that leave your cheeks aching from smiling so hard.
The kind of drugs that leave you wishing to go back and relive a moment.
The kind of drugs that join you when you’re lying in bed at night.
The kind of drugs that hit you when you hear the best news.
The kind of drugs that engulf you when you lose someone you love.
The kind of drugs that embrace you again when you cycle your doubts.
The kind of drugs that tell you there is no hope.
The kind of drugs that tell you there is hope.
They are more controlling than any drug could be.
Because they aren’t a drug, they are us and we are them.
The question is, are they controlling us, or are we controlling them?
It’s a scary thought, that the worst drugs are the ones we can’t fight,
the ones that are a lifelong partner with us.
